Nice column, great life! I now have clearer understanding from ship conversations of why you like living in Spain so much. Much evidence in this lovely piece.

Loved this. With all the chaos and bitterness happening in the world around us, this snippet made me smile and provided a bit of respite.

The refurbished plaza looks fantastic, as do you two elegantly aging local residents! 💃🕺. This is an ann especially interesting and informative Snippet.

Thank you for your diligent reading week after week and your kind remarks. Not sure which one means more to me - elegantly aging local residents or an interesting and important Snippet. I'll call it a tie and am pleased for both.

I also think it helps to have longevity in your family if possible. I'm so sensitive to cigarette or smoke of any kind, I would find it difficult to live in an area with so much smoking. When I travel to some places in Europe or the US, I feel grateful to return home to a place with very little smoking.

Another thing I noticed when looking at the map you posted, is that Loma Linda, Sardinia, and Ikaria look like they may be on similar latitudes (parallels). I wonder if climate helps in this equation - mild climate is conducive to being outside and active?

Thanks for reading and your comment, Virginia. When I'm in the US, one of the first things I notice is that so few people, relatively speaking smoke. And when I come back here, I'm amazed and perplexed once again.

I'm sure that being outdoors must have a lot to do with longevity. It also helps people be around trees, flowers, and birds, which also gives one a good jolt of the natural world.

This is fabulous! I love that you highlight the factors leading to the good life and how you are trying to create the same conditions in Spain to mimic those characteristics. You really have found a wonderful corner of the world to call home. The plaza looks much improved from when we visited and delighted to see you fact-checked that the sun-benches and ping-pong tables actually work.

Stripes are always fashionable, and I love the colourful shoes! I did wonder if they were espadrilles...😉

Of course as a writer I had to fact check. Probably worth going again just to make sure I didn't get them wrong, though I'm not sure the ping pong results would be the same. The shoes aren't espadrilles but I did buy them in a town in northern Spain. Two pairs actually.

I always look forward to your comments. Thanks so much.
